CLIFTON HILL COOPWORTH STUD SOLDWe would like to announce the Clifton Hill Coopworth Stud has been sold (except for the 2009 drop ewe weaners) to Matt and Tanya Tonissen of Chrome Coopworths at Hamilton in Western Victoria. The Clifton Hill sheep have been added to the existing Chrome Coopworth Stud and will further enhance the quality of their rapidly expanding stud business. The entire Clifton Hill 2009 ram drop has been sold with the stud, and will be marketed by Matt and Tanya starting in October this year. The tops of these rams are reserved for the Coopworth National Ram Sale in Hamilton on the 12th of November, however the bulk of the rams will be sold at their Annual ram sale on Saturday the 9th of October 2010. These rams are easily the best drop of rams we have produced to date, with nearly all above average on the Coopworth dollar index and many ranking in the top 10 per cent. For further information visit the Chrome Coopworth website at www.coopworth.org.au/chrome CLIFTON HILL 2009 EWE WEANERSJohn & Sue still have their Clifton Hill 2009 ewe weaners. There are 90 of these ewes, with about one third above 120 on the Coopworth Index and close to 90% above the Coopworth Breed Average for Index. These ewes will either be sold during the coming months, or we are open to negotiation in regard to contract mating them. Our Aim is to produce genetically reliable, high index, maternal sires for commercial lamb producers. The Flock was founded in 1987 from screened ewes, and only lambs born in the first 23 days of the lambing period are retained for recording purposes. All lambs are weighed, tagged and recorded at birth, and the ewes ability to protect the lamb during that process is also recorded.
|
Weighing and scanning times adhere to ASBV and CGA recommendations, ie we take birth weights and record for flight distances of the ewes (mothering ability) at tagging (birth) and weaning weights of ALL lambs at 12-16 weeks.
At this point, some lambs are culled. The remainder are then weighed and scanned at 200 days. All lambs are shorn in January, then ram lamb wool weights are recorded in July/August and ewe lambs in November. We monitor internal parasite resistance by recording individual worm egg counts (WEC's) from all weaners. Young rams are available for sale from mid October, and are always priced according to their index rating. However, buyers are encouraged to select the appropriate E.B.V.’s for their own breeding programs and requirements. The Clifton Hill flock is now being run on the Bellarine Peninsula east of Geelong, and inspections are invited by appointment.
